- Reports to Operations Manager for all general operations, HR and staffing matters.
- Functional reporting to Project Manager for all project specific matters including safety, schedule, budgets, labor, materials and equipment.
- Directs the work of Project Foremen and Hourly Crew.
- Works directly with CWC Executive Management team, Equipment Manager, Estimators and Project Management teams, Site Superintendents, Foremen and Accounting and Finance as part of a collaborative team-based culture.

Safety
- Responsible for ensuring all construction activities comply with safety standards and policies set out by Conwest Contracting, WorkSafe regulations and standards.
- Ensures all aspects of his/her role are executed in a safe manner.
- Obeys safety guidelines when on construction sites and Conwest operations.
- Displays leadership in promoting the safety culture of Conwest Contracting.
Schedule & Planning
- Participate in bid reviews and pre-construction meetings.
- Direct and coordinate activities of field personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within a prescribed budget and adheres to all regulatory restrictions and requirements.
- Ensure Project Foreman / Lead Hand have a complete understanding of project scope and methodology.
- Manage and coordinate sub-contractors work on site.
- Prepares work plans and scheduling to determine resource, material, and equipment requirements.
- Schedule and plan ahead of each crew, to remove schedule obstructions weeks in advance.
- Review status reports prepared by Project Manager and modify schedules or plans as required.
Labour
- Manage Project Foremen and key project staff responsible for project construction, including all scheduling and vacation approvals.
- Provide support to project staff as needed, including: providing project technical advice and resolution to problems; and ensuring employees for each task are fully qualified to perform assigned duties.
- Identify, recruit, and make recommendations to Operations Manager for VP approval for hiring of new field staff.
- Oversee and mentor project staff as needed in order to contribute to their development and career growth.
- Advise and recommend disciplinary action to ensure adherence to company policies/procedures/COR standards with review by Operations Manager and VP approval.
- Obtain and utilize the most skilled and appropriate workers for each task.
- Liaise with Operations Manager on all personnel paperwork.
- Set a productive, consistent, and professional work example while supporting and promoting published Conwest Contracting policies and core values of safety, quality, integrity, sustainability, and success.
Materials & Equipment
- Read and interpret drawings and blueprints to determine construction plan, including accurate assessment of materials and equipment required.
- Manage and maintain strong working relationships with project owners, partners, suppliers and stakeholders.
- Allocate resources (people, subs and equipment) where appropriate to achieve project safety, schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
- Work with Project Manager to review and prepare a needs assessment of equipment and resources.
Qualifications and Skills
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in civil construction including earthworks and underground utilities with at least 5 years’ experience in a supervisory capacity.
- Must possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written with exceptional interpersonal and relationship management skills.
- Possesses a demonstrated ability to lead and direct construction teams, analyze issues, and bring innovative solutions to achieving work plan objectives.
- Must be people oriented with an ability to establish a high degree of credibility with staff and clients.
- Possesses a basic understanding and interpretation of Job Cost reports.
- Must be a proficient scheduler and planner with a proven track record of successful project completions or portfolio.
- Knowledge and understanding of union environment and Post-secondary education a plus. (i.e. Project Engineering, Project Management, Civil Engineering Technology).
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract.
Compensation from $100,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
